What is Personal Action Plan (PAP) Project?
Prior to departure for SUSI 2012, every participants are required to complete their PAP Project on any 5 given topics. In order to maximize the impact of experience gained and to implement the project, they need to identify a partner organization, business or government agency interested in co-designing a mutually beneficial project. By having this collaboration, participants will harness their potential to share solutions to both parties and help to connect organizations and environmental leaders from different countries attempting to solve the environmental problem.
My PAP Project : Water
I am interested to study and make some research on the water topic. Water is very essential and vital for all known forms of life including human being, flora and fauna. More than 70% of the world surface is covered with water which means it is more than 2/3 of the area in the sphere of world . However, the composition of fresh water is only 2.5% and with this amount of water composition it is to be used by all the living organisms in the world. It is not a surprised to know that more than one billion of human world's population still lack of access to safe drinking water and triple the population do not have a adequate sanitation. This is where the beginning of the awareness to provide a safe drinking water and a proper sanitation to the people become a great concerns by the experts.

What is the project plan?
After I was been accepted by the company to have a collaboration and partnership on issues pertaining to water management, I have met Mr Aminuddin Ismail, the Manager, Research and Development Center, Puncak Niaga(M) Sdn Bhd to briefly discuss on what is the water issue that we indeed together need to tackle. Fundamentally, Mr Aminuddin was put under the Operation and Maintenance Division, so he involved directly in the water treatment process which involves to supply the end users like local residents and industries with a safe and clean water.
So we decided to highlight the studies on the methods and approaches toward improving in managing development activities of water treatment to minimize the risk of environmental pollution and waste and also to enhance the water quality supplies to local consumers. The studies will be covered on these 3 criteria as follow:
(a) To determine and study on the safest and the most environmental friendly types of chemical coagulants used during coagulation and flocculation
phases in the water treatment plant.
(b) To determine and study the best green practices or methods used to manage and treat the water treatment residual such as sludge.
(c) To identify the methods used to counter with the non-revenue water issue during water distribution to end users.
Other than the above studies, I will also interested to study on the latest technology, strategies and research particularly in water treatment process and other matters related to water management and its impact towards the environment from the SUSI program. I will share the solutions practiced in these U.S. communities with the organization when I am returning home soon.
